Green Door Giveaway

lets-make-a-deal.JPGnot sure if anyone was a fan of the old game show “let’s make a deal“. audience members had to pick what was behind door number 1, door number 2 or door number 3. i always used to hold my breath and wait for the treasures [or zonks] to be revealed.

i’m sure you’re wondering: what on earth does this have to do with the green door giveaway? don’t worry. i am not that cruel. i won’t make you sign up for something without telling you what it is first. but. that does give me an idea for a future giveaway [insert evil laugh here].

no no. i am much more simple than that. this is strictly about doors. and the mysteries and treasures that lay behind them. which is exactly what the item up for grabs today stirs within me. the endless wonders and possibilities. the striking beauty in the everyday. the allure of pealing paint.

so. without further ado. i present to you the green door by heather of wanderlust designs photography.

green-door.JPG

the print measures 5×7 inches (12.7 x 17.78 cm) and will come with a black matte that is sized to 8×10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 cm). the photograph is printed on archival photo paper with archival inks at a professional photo lab. ie – it is NOT an inkjet copy!

and in case you want to know where heather found such a door…it is part of president james garfield’s monument in lake view cemetery in cleveland, ohio.

when asked about her photography, heather had this to say:

i love to photograph anything unusual or unique. it allows me to share my world with others.

and because you needed to know. here is where heather’s inspiration comes from:

i love anything that makes me smile, is visual, makes me look twice, or catches my eye. i love vibrant colors and unusual sights. photography for me is the representation of the world around me. it is a visual statement of my place in the world.

just in case you wanted to see more of heather’s work [i know, i am a mind reader], feel free to visit her shop or her flickr.

*in order to enter the green door giveaway, you must leave a comment with what you think is behind the green door. i will not accept any entries without it.*

same rules apply as always. one entry per person. giveaway ends april 3 at midnight ET. winner is announced april 4th. you can also check prizey winners for information on who won.

Oh, I adore the print, it would be an honor to hang it in my house. The color is just gorgeous!
Well, if you open the door, you enter into a mystical fairy-tale land. The air is warm, light, everybody feels happy! I actually wish I had a small version of this door to hang on the wall, it gives me happy feelings. Thanks for the great give away!

Goats…I don’t know why, but I’d love to open the door and see a sea of goats. Maybe the door reminds of Pan’s Labyrinth and that is taking be to goats because of the Faun, which looks somewhat like a goat…

I would hope that there would be a car behind the door, I just love it on the price is right when they yell a new caaaaaaaaaaaar….!!

Love the picture, great giveaway!

Ah…the secret garden!

6 jennifer handke { 04.02.08 at 3:12 pm }

I don’t think it’s a door. I think it’s a gate into a private garden connected to a romantic, airy bedroom.

7 Martha { 04.02.08 at 3:15 pm }

I imagine once I found the large bronze key and inserted in the keyhole I would enter into a sanctuary of peace with low light, pleasant smells of incense and utter calmness. There would be only one chair and it would be in front of a window looking out at such beauty the mind could not imagine. There I would rest and think of my blessings. Have a good day. Martha W.

I love this print, its absolutely beautiful and quite intreging. I imagine that behind that green door is a beautiful home, filled with laughter and smiles from little children playing with all their wonderful toys and puppies.

A happy place for people to rest after they have past away on to another place. At least that’s what I am hoping for.

12 Cindi { 04.02.08 at 3:31 pm }

Hello, Quite a beautiful photograph. I like pictures of doors, barns and old sheds. Garfield’s Monument is lovely. If I were to open this magical door, there would be a huge, lovely forest with a time machine in the middle of it. I could go forward in time and view hopefully new cures for illness and back in time to see how people truly lived. Cindi

Since it is at a monument, I’m picturing an old house that used to hold warm family moments, laughter, and family togetherness.

29 Stacey H. { 04.02.08 at 6:56 pm }

I was going to leave a real guess and say that I think it leads to his actual burial place, but then I read these other responses and figured that was too, um, realistic of a guess. Sorry, that’s just me I suppose. :) Thanks for the entry!

COME ON! It has to be somewhere… this is a really good place for it.

47 Kimberly B. { 04.02.08 at 11:32 pm }

I think that is the door to a library. Whenever someone tells a child a story—doesn’t read it, just tells it—the story becomes a book that is kept in that library. So if you have stories your mother told you floating around in your head, don’t worry, they won’t be forgotten. They are locked away safely behind that door!

48 Terri D { 04.02.08 at 11:36 pm }

A courtyard in the French Quarter

Heather’s photograph is superb. I’d be honored to display it.
(plus, it matches the trim in my living room :-D )

69 TexasTesla { 04.03.08 at 10:29 am }

Lovely shot, and intriguing. Older doors like that have a certain romance, like opening them will yield some wonderful room full of dusty treasures – old dresses, fading pictures of serious people, wooden toys with painting flaking off.

70 erica s { 04.03.08 at 10:32 am }

trolls. definitely trolls.

71 Brandy { 04.03.08 at 10:56 am }

Behind the green door, is a small room long forgotten. It is perhaps in an old abandoned castle, for the walls are made of block stone, which have begun to crumble leaving a fine gray dust upon the bare stone floor. There is a single window, directly across from the door. It is covered with wooden shutters that are faded and cracked, allowing in thin rays of sunlight. I can see the dust motes I have stirred sparkling and dancing in those rays of light. Otherwise, the room is empty, but perhaps full of memories and things which I can not see. Beautiful photograph, thanks for the giveaway! :)

77 Rebecca Dillon { 04.03.08 at 12:06 pm }

I think you’ll find a secret society of paranormals behind that door.

78 Molly B. { 04.03.08 at 12:11 pm }

The door looks like it belongs to someone old who has lived there a very long time. I expect to see a grandmother with a shawl sitting in a rocker and knitting something behind the door.

79 Tori Gollihugh { 04.03.08 at 12:24 pm }

When the door opens, which is does just as you approach it, you perceive deep darkness. But beyond the darkness there is a faint light, like the glow of a candle. In the flicker of the candle’s light, and barely discernable, you see the stooped figure of an ancient and tiny old woman with strings of hair waving in the barely-there breeze you have allowed to enter her domain. She beckons and calls with an amazingly young and sweet voice.

80 Dora mc { 04.03.08 at 12:39 pm }

81 Rachel Fox { 04.03.08 at 12:51 pm }

93 Timothy Sternberg { 04.03.08 at 3:41 pm }

94 A Casson { 04.03.08 at 5:09 pm }

maybe a passage way to a hidden cave with Frankenstein in it

95 E Westbrook { 04.03.08 at 7:08 pm }

This image reminds me of a door I once saw on an old, abandoned shack out in the woods. A long time ago, one of the local farmers used the shack to dry and cure tobacco. Today, though, the shack is mainly used by homeless people. So, behind this door I see an old man huddled in the corner to conserve warmth under some stained, moldy, newspapers from 1983.

96 Brittany Rebello { 04.03.08 at 7:30 pm }

I picture a garden, it reminds me of the Secret Garden movie :)

97 Carmen { 04.03.08 at 7:34 pm }

Behind the door is the crypt and memorial for Garfield and his family. I really like some of the other answers & if I were guessing instead of knowing, I’d say it was a gate to a lovely Tuscan garden. Thanks for hosting!

98 Barb Wild { 04.03.08 at 8:21 pm }

my house is on the other side of this door!

99 Brandy { 04.03.08 at 9:23 pm }

Oh the other side of that door. How I’d love to know for sure.

I sit here peeking through the keyhole only catching glimpses of items. A worn old key laying on the table far across the room. I can only hope it isn’t the one and only key that unlocks this door. The table itself is ornate, with a warm brown tone, perhaps oak, of its make up I cannot be sure, all I can see is the intricate details that I would so love to run my finger across.

I can see a soft light coming through a window, and I’m just sure its covered in a lace curtain as there is a small pattern to the shadows. From the other side of the table though there is darkness.

What that means I cannot tell, as I have yet to open this door, I do fear though that it is life or death, as only such a door could hold. What I do know is that upon opening the door there would have to be a choice made. At least if I should close the door behind me or not. ^-~
