31 Things: The Farmers Market
#28. visit a farmers market
i’m probably a tad bit silly for wanting to go to a farmer’s market in the winter time considering there really aren’t too many things in season right now, let alone locally grown. but. the temptation was too great.
my pal laurzie [see, i spelled it right!] asked if i wanted to hit up the farmers market with her last weekend. and the curiosity of what would be there combined with the incessant need to check things off my list made it impossible to turn down.
my bounty of awesomeness from the market included: 1 butternut squash, 2 sweet potatoes, and 1 half-gallon of local apple cider. not too bad for a winter market. i was also tempted to get a bunch of sweet onions and some eggs, but we had both at home. and i wasn’t buying just to buy.
all in all, i had a great morning at the market. and look forward to going on a more regular basis.

Where is this market? I could totally be talked into going, esp for sweet onions and cider!
When I was in grad school I’d often stop by the South Side farmer’s market since it was a good use of my limited dollars. However, the quantities were not really designed for someone living alone. I remember buying a basket of sweet potatoes and eating one for dinner every night for a week. Not as a side dish. As dinner. In other news, I lost a lot of weight in grad school.
@beth – it’s the one in east liberty, across from home depot. you can find more info about it here.
[...] Due to the snow – the East Liberty Farmers’ market – which is usually open Saturday mornings – will be open on Sunday so that the meats and produce don’t go to waste. New to the Farmers’ Market is the Kew Park Coffee Bar – read more about it in the East Liberty Post. Also check out some of the great photos that Subu, inc took of their visit to the Farmers’ Market last month. [...]
